Media Advisory-Cambodian Indirect Sex Workers Report

ILO has released a small qualitative study of women who left their jobs in the garment industry during the economic crisis to work in the entertainment sector. The study seeks to better understand the work situation of these women, including their vulnerability to HIV/AIDS in order to identify avenues for practical assistance to reduce their HIV-related vulnerabilities. Consultative Meeting on Maternity Protection

In collaboration with the Provincial Department of Labour and Vocational Training, ILO Better Factories Cambodia conducted its first consultative meeting on maternity protection on Thursday 26 August in Kampong Speu provincial town. 2nd Tracking Survey of Cambodian Garment Sector Workers Affected by Global Economic Crisis

ILO Better Factories Cambodia releases its 2nd tracking study of Cambodian garment sector workers affected by the global economic crisis, following the benchmarking and the 1st tracking study conducted in the 4th quarter of 2009, and the 1st quarter 2010. The study aims to learn new hardships faced by workers and their families, their coping mechanisms, job searching strategies, and steps taken by firms to mitigate the adverse impacts of the crisis on their workforce. New Minimum Wage for the Garment and Shoe Work Industry- 5$ Wage Increase for Workers

On July 8th 2010, the members of the Cambodian Labour Advisory Committee agreed on a new minimum wage for the garment and shoe industry. Negotiation around this issued were scheduled to happen in 2010. The previous minimum wage had been agreed upon in 2006. The Labour Advisory committee is a tripartite institution that is composed of 14 government, 7 trade union and 7 employer representatives. Members discussed the wage hike, the effective date of implementation, and its timeframe.Click here for the whole text
