These garment workers are working with Better Factories Cambodia (BFC) to share their experiences and perspectives in order to combat the issue of fainting in factories. There is no one cause for fainting. Contributing factors include but are not limited to: poor hygiene and nutrition, heat stress, exhaustion, poor worker-management communications and mass psychogenic illness. They are ‘Experts’ based on their experience in factories and knowledge of industry working conditions. By giving input to BFC’s wider campaign to combat fainting, sharing their stories and advocating publicly they are working towards helping other workers and the wider garment sector put an end to fainting. Here, the Experts by Experience give their input on what is causing fainting in Cambodia’s garment factories, listing many of the reasons that have been cited by experts, including industrial hygienists, for fainting. They point to the need for a multi-faceted response involving employers, workers, government and international buyers. |
